When a new sports-lifestyle brand approaches us, we don’t just send a catalog, we guide them through a structured eyewear collection development process that turns rough ideas into a focused, launch-ready line. In this recent project with a new sports brand in Asia, we used a live brainstorming session to map their users, narrow down styles, and build a clear first-order plan. We spend time studying our client’s styles, colour choices, marketing campaigns to fully understand their brand identity.
In-Person Brainstorming With Curated Sample
We started with a face-to-face meeting in Shenzhen, where our team prepared full set of sample eyewear covering a wide style range. The trays many styles included carbon and wrap sport styles, metal and hip street styles, shield designs in metal and acetate, one-piece fronts, classic shapes, and injection frames for both lifestyle and functional sports use.
As our client tried on frames and reacted to shapes, colours, and fit, we watched closely to see what felt authentic to their brand identity and what clearly did not. This real-time reaction helps us quickly screen out styles that don’t belong in a first eyewear collection.
Translating Lifestyle Into Design Directions
Once their target users were clear, we translated that lifestyle into concrete design directions. Together, we agreed on eye shapes and styles that were not essential for this phase and did not reflect their current community or visual language.
Instead, we focused on a sport-lifestyle blend built around:
- Moderate wrap for without full performance race look
- Acetate frames for rich colour, comfort, and lifestyle appeal
- Slim metal constructions that feel light, minimal, and a touch technical
- Nylon and flexible elements where needed to add lightness and on-face comfort
We took inspiration from slimmer metal profiles, flexible, and clean silhouettes already proven in the sports-lifestyle market, ensuring their future eyewear would sit credibly on shelf next to established brands. Colours and finishes were aligned with their current apparel and accessories, with room to grow into future seasonal capsules.
Narrowing Down to a Focused Test Collection
From the original wide style range on the table, we narrowed the plan down to a compact, testable first eyewear collection. Together with the brand, we agreed to:
- Select 3–4 key eye shapes that best express their brand identity
- Mix acetate, metal, and light nylon components to balance lifestyle aesthetics with sports readiness
- Keep wrap levels controlled, with one-piece 400C and two-piece 600C options for market testing
This first order acts as a structured trial for their community and retail partners. It will help the brand measure:
- Consumer preference between wrap versus more classic frame silhouettes
- Reaction to acetate lifestyle frames versus slimmer metal options
- Real-world feedback on comfort, flexibility, and fit during snow sports, running, and everyday outdoor use
By treating the first collection as a focused market test rather than trying to cover every possible style, the brand can control MOQ, learn fast, and reinvest into the best-performing models in future seasons.
Giving the Brand Space to Explore – With Expert Guidance
We provided enough space for each of us to connect and bounce off design ideas back and forth on their brand vision. Throughout the meeting, we kept bringing concrete ideas to the table: references from existing frames, colour proposals linked to their products, and possible future directions for snow, running, and “home to trail” users. The result was not only a clear collection roadmap, but a stronger partnership.
